A visit to the University of South Carolina isn't complete without a glimpse of the historic Horseshoe. The U-shaped original campus — once called South Carolina College — has seen more than two centuries of history unfold, earning it a position on the National Register of Historic Places.
In the heart of Columbia, the Vista is adjacent to the South Carolina State House and the University of South Carolina. Our apartment is walking distance to it and some of our favorite resaurants are in this district. In addition to some great food, you can engage with amazing and interactive exhibits at the South Carolina State Museum, and the younger visitors can enjoy hands-on exhibits at EdVenture Children’s Museum.
Soda City Market is Columbia’s weekly Main Street event inspired by traditional European street markets. It's open every Saturday morning 9 a.m. –1 p.m., year-round, rain or shine. Find everything you need to nourish your brain, body, and belly, and maybe find a neat souvenir. Soda City Market is a microcosm of Columbia, a melting pot of cultures, and an inviting community experience worth making the trip.
One of our first dates. Explore your inner wild child at Riverbanks, hands-down one of the nation’s prettiest zoos, and be swooped into the natural world on a campus easily maneuverable for even your youngest partygoer. The 170-acre oasis for animals, plants and visitors alike is nestled along the banks of the Lower Saluda River and home to 2,000 animals in habitat as well as an ever-growing State Botanical Garden.
Explore Columbia's Historic House and Garden District and take a journey through the dynamic history of South Carolina's capital city by visiting the properties of Historic Columbia. Woodrow Wilson's family house, Robert Mills house and gardens, and Mann-Simons Site just to name a few.
